Breeds of Livestock

The Najdi sheep is a popular indigenous breed of sheep in the Najd plateau of Saudi Arabia and has spread to other surrounding countries. Najdi sheep produce a highly desired meat for traditional Saudi recipes and therefore, are primarily utilized for meat production. However, their milk and hair are also used in production.

Najdi sheep are non-seasonal breeders as well as possessing high twinning rates, making them very profitable for producers. Najdi sheep are adapted to efficiently grow with limited feed access.

Najdi sheep are large breed with a tall frame. They have very distinct features; generally polled (can be horned), long, dropping ears, long, coarse hair, black colored body with a white head and white markings on the legs.

This fat-tailed breed is highly adapted to the desert environment. They have a high tolerance to the region’s heat and overall turbulent climate.
