The Barb is a light riding horse which originated in the Maghreb region of northern Africa. The Bard horse is considered the horse of the Berbers, which lived in that area at that time. They are considered the horses used by the Moors, as a warhorse when invading Spain. There are several varieties including Algerian, Moroccan and Tunisian. This is the foundation breed of the West African Barb and the Spanish Barb which was developed in the United States. The Bard is a medium sized horse, standing at 13.2 - 15 hands.
